The Silhouette

Among many other things, Alvar Aalto taught us that the silhouette of buildings is very important. This is a very good exercise in the first phase of Waves and should not be lost in the second phase. Apart from making the development recognisable from near and far, it is a distinguishing mark of identity that we must take advantage of. Master Aalto did not design his silhouette in 2D, it was a changing silhouette, designed to be perceived from the walkway.

The shadow of the past

What do you miss most about ancient buildings?… for me, the shadows. Their living, changing appearance that Monet captured in his paintings of Rouen Cathedral. Flat, two-dimensional façades only give us a façade and brief moments of change with tangential light. Our façade has to be three-dimensional and alive throughout the day and night… for this we are going to take special care of the shadows and we are going to use them to connect the buildings.
